We have all been involved in embarrassing moments that may cause conflict. These moments may involve tripping in public or waving to a stranger thinking it’s your friend. Within your professional role, these embarrassing moments may have greater consequences. We may not be able to prevent some embarrassing moments, but we can take charge of our responses to the situation.
For your initial response, identify an embarrassing moment that caused an uncomfortable conflict, and discuss how you responded to the situation. Remember, conflict can be internal, as is likely the case here. Then discuss your response to the situation from the perspective of one of the following:
When faced with embarrassing moments, I do my best to minimize my actions and deflect blame.
When faced with embarrassing moments, I carefully explain what happened to everyone who witnessed the situation and take full responsibility.
When faced with embarrassing moments, I run from the situation and never look back.
When faced with embarrassing moments, I evaluate the gravity of the situation before deciding how to respond.
